About The Position

Shrub Oak International School (www.shruboak.org) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family-centric, supportive environment. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students across the spectrum, and our curriculum is based on the most advanced and successful evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education. The Psychologist works collaboratively with education, clinical, and residential staff, as well as parents and students, to develop plans and strategies to improve students’ academic performance, mental health, and social development in accordance with ITEPs (Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Plan). Having access to confidential information, discretion, and independent judgment is required.

Requirements

Master’s in clinical psychology, school psychology, or related psychological field required, PhD or PsyD preferred
An active New York State License is preferred in good professional standing. License-eligible applicants may be considered
At least 2 years’ experience in conducting psychological assessments, evaluations, and interventions required; 3 or more years preferred
Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities is required
Exceptional written communication skills, specifically involving documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other related administrative tasks
Exceptional verbal communication skills
Skilled in managing challenging behaviors and executing de-escalation techniques
Ability and willingness to learn new skills
Ability to display grit and resilience and maintain composure
Strong ability to build relationships with students and peers
Strong ability to process and retain information and to think critically and analytically during crisis
Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment
Ability to handle highly challenging behaviors, including those aggressive in nature
Ability to get TCIS trained and complete/maintain all required trainings

Nice To Haves

Experience supervising/training staff and designing training programs is preferred
Experience proactively identifying appropriate developmental or training programs for students, designing the content, and delivering or coordinating the implementation preferred
Special Education Boarding school experience preferred

Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive assessments and reassessments of a student's psychological, behavioral, and emotional needs
Designs and develops treatment plans and interventions that meet the individualized needs of students
Provides expertise in behavioral science and mental health-related services through advisement and consultation by making evidence-based recommendations
Supervises (or is eligible to supervise) other mental health professionals and/or interns, develops clinically oriented groups and program supports, and creates, organizes, and leads relevant staff training.
Utilizes a variety of treatment approaches that are safe, creative, and individualized to a particular student's needs
Provides therapy/counseling to individuals and groups using various evidence-based modalities, monitoring student progress
Provides supervision of staff and/or interns as needed and required
Proactively maintains open lines of communication with care providers, students, and family members to effectively address student progress, development, and emergencies, as needed.
Supports the crisis team, which proactively seeks to enhance our approaches/policies to minimize episodes of crisis and escalation, wherever possible, and then manage crisis situations with integrity and safety for all involved
Proactively identifies appropriate training for staff, and programming for students (groups or individually), and once approved, designs and coordinates training, enabling us to grow and scale
Maintains appropriate records and reports as required
Participates in Clinical activities to advance field knowledge and remains at the forefront of professional development and advancements
Participates, as needed, in community and professional education regarding clinical matters, life skills independence, and related areas
