About The Position

Are you interested in starting or advancing your psychology career with New York State? Central New York Psychiatric Center is recruiting for a psychologist 2 to provide professional psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist to individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

As a Psychologist 2 at Central New York Psychiatric Center, your duties will include:

Leading and participating in individual, family, and/or group counseling sessions.
Administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests.
Developing and implementing treatment or behavioral support plans.

Requirements

• Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a master's degree in psychology and three years of supervised, post-degree psychology experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting.
• Substitutions: Doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology and 1 year of qualifying experience may be substituted for both the education and experience requirements.
• Clinical psychology practicum, externship, or fieldwork assignment, that was completed as part of a qualifying master of psychology degree, may be substituted for 1 year of the required experience.
• Certificate of advanced study in a clinical field of psychology or school psychology may be substituted for 1 year of required experience.
• Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Psychologist 2 eligible list.
• Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
• In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Psychologist 2 at Central New York Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position's minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.
• The promotion field for the Psychologist 2 position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a psychologist 1.
