About The Position

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Department of Psychiatry welcomes you to consider joining our growing Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic and Avel Gordly Center for Healing. We are seeking a full-time board-certified/eligible Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing team in the provision of ambulatory psychiatric care. An ideal candidate is a dynamic clinician/educator interested in system-based care approaches, complex cases and care improvement efforts, driven to seek out and integrate current evidence and scholarly findings in their practice and teaching in furtherance of the university’s mission of excellence in education, research, clinical care, outreach and public service. Faculty are eligible and encouraged to fulfill roles in the department's and clinic's strategic care initiatives such as in interventional psychiatry, collaborative care, etc. The OHSU Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic (OPC) is located in SW Portland and is comprised of a collaborative groups of psychiatrists, PMHNPs, physician assistants, psychologists, neuropsychologists and a group of 20-24 psychiatry residents (PGY2-PGY4). The clinic offers access to an expanded array of treatment facilities and methodologies, providing expert consultation, evaluation, and treatment for a wide variety of mental health conditions including: mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma-related disorders, somatic symptom disorders, ADHD and others. Function/Duties of Position The Avel Gordly Center for Healing (AGCH) is located in SW Portland and is comprised of psychiatrists and licensed professional counselors. ACCH mission is to: Facilitate healing in child, adults, couples ,families, and community Employ Trauma-Informed practices and approaches Serve everyone and focus on the provision of Afro-centric culturally specific and responsive services Engage and educate community through teaching and training AGCH services include psychiatric evaluation and medication management, individual psychotherapy, couples, family, and group therapy, as well as community training to build support networks. This position reports to (supervisor): Adult Outpatient Clinic Medical Director and Avel Gordly Center for Healing Medical Director

Requirements

  • Must be a MD/DO and board certified or eligible in Psychiatry or a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/licensed Physician Assistant in the State of Oregon with either Psychiatry Specialty Certification (CAQ-Psych) or completion of a 12-month psychiatry fellowship.
  • MD/DOs must be graduates of an ACGME-approved Psychiatry Residency
  • Eligible to obtain an unrestricted license to practice in the State of Oregon
  • Must have cultural competence in working with the African and African-American communities, as demonstrated by the following: In-depth knowledge of impact of African-American history on African-American culture and psychology Ability to work clinically with issues of systematic oppression, racism and discrimination, including teaching clients a comprehensive skill set to deal with these concerns; Ability to assist clients in developing a healthy African-Americans and/or Africans; and Five or more years of experience of immersion in African-American culture

  • Additional experience with clinical education of trainees preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical services to program clients including evaluation, individual, group, family counseling, case management and documentation of clinical services consistent with program standards and relevant OARs. Services provided will reflect cultural competence and knowledge of evidence-based practices regarding the clients and their clinical concerns.
  • Collaborate with other clinical staff, including medical providers, to ensure clients receive appropriate and coordinated care.
  • Provide mentoring and clinical supervision of residents, fellows, student interns, and students, as needed.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and case consultation meetings.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other program staff, Department of Psychiatry, and other OHSU departments, referral sources, and other community agencies.
  • Meet clinical productivity standards as established for the position
