About The Position

This position is for an Adult Inpatient Psychiatrist at Brook Lane Hospital in Hagerstown, MD, offering a competitive base salary of $335,000, a $250,000 sign-on bonus, and up to $50,000 in relocation assistance. The role involves managing a caseload of approximately 15 patients on a 27-bed Adult Inpatient Unit, which typically has an average census of about 21 patients. The psychiatrist will work a 7 on / 7 off schedule with 10-hour days and will be an integral part of a strong multidisciplinary behavioral health team. Opportunities for teaching psychiatry residents, medical students, NP, and PA programs are available. The unit specializes in managing complex cases such as treatment-resistant depression, severe mania, psychosis, dual diagnosis, and medical comorbidities, utilizing rapid psychiatric and medical evaluation and evidence-based treatment protocols. The position also includes participation in a call schedule, including one night per week and one in six weekends, as well as daytime on-call coverage for ED referral screenings and urgent inpatient needs. Meritus Health and Brook Lane together form one of the largest behavioral health networks in the region, with plans for further academic collaboration with the launch of the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2025.

Requirements

Medical degree (MD/DO) and completion of a Psychiatry residency program
Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry

Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of approximately 15 patients
Participate in teaching opportunities with psychiatry residents, medical students, NP and PA programs
Manage complex cases including treatment-resistant depression, severe mania, psychosis, dual diagnosis, and medical comorbidities
Conduct rapid psychiatric and medical evaluation and implement evidence-based treatment protocols
Participate in 1 night per week call
Participate in 1 in 6 weekends call
Provide daytime on-call coverage (8 AM – 5 PM) for ED referral screenings and urgent inpatient needs
