The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans. The team includes psychiatrists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, mental health technicians, social workers, therapists and educators. Be able to establish empathy and a person-centered approach to patients. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner has the ability to recognize own limitations and respond to difficult situations. Skillfully work in a self-motivated and independent manner. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members as well as clients. Completes follow up visits after initial assessment is completed. Participates in staffing weekly and family sessions as needed. Prescribes pharmacologic interventions as necessary. Reviews all applicable laboratory and diagnostic test results. Consults with attending psychiatrist when necessary. Makes referrals for further diagnostic psychological or medical testing as needed. As appropriate, communicates with patients, patients’ families and others to obtain personal and social information pertinent to the patients’ treatment. Prepares documentation in accordance with Hospital for Behavioral Medicines policies and all regulatory and accrediting bodies.
