Full-time, Day/Evening position, 4-10s or 3-12s, weekend and holiday requirement As a member of the Acute Psychiatry Service (APS) Provider Team, the Advanced Practice Provider will assume the role of responding clinician in the assessment and care of patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders, including diagnosis, treatment, education, and management of the patient, in particular the patient awaiting admission to a psychiatric inpatient facility. The patient may be evaluated or seen in follow-up while in the APS, the main ED or an associated observation/ boarding unit. The APP will collaborate with all the members of the care team including EM and APS physicians, nurses, resource specialists, social workers, case managers, administrative staff, etc. to ensure optimal care. The APP will facilitate and coordinate the operational, administrative and collaborative efforts of the multidisciplinary team. Performs medically delegated aspects of patient care. Such as ordering and interpreting lab and diagnostic testing. Prescribes medication and orders therapeutic treatments. Determines level of care needs for patients and initiates referrals, transfers, and consultations as needed for behavioral health and substance abuse disorders. Participates in the activities that contribute to the education of health care professionals including presenting and publishing. Participates in and facilitates quality assurance and performance improvement activities for evaluation of structure, process, and outcome criteria as it relates to clinical practice. Identifies factors contributing to outcomes, such as complications, increased length of stay, and over utilization of services and actively participates in problem solving these issues, in collaboration with appropriate staff. Summary The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. This position is a Psychiatric NP and focuses on providing care to patients with mental health disorders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years advanced practice experience, strongly preferred, in adult mental health, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing Required - Adult Psychiatric Mental Health
  • Master Physician Assistant Required- Adult Psychiatric Mental Health
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant - Adult Psychiatric Mental Health in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current federal and state-controlled substance certification/registration.
  • Master's Degree Nursing required
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner 0-1 year required.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish a strong therapeutic working relationship with patients.
  • Thorough professional knowledge of the practice of psychiatry.
  • Have the ability and training to prescribe to, and manage patients on psychiatric medications.
  • Actively support program goals and system improvements/changes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • Perform risk assessments for psychiatric patients to determine level of care
  • Manage acute agitation for patients within the psychiatric ED.
