About The Position

This position is for a part-time social worker to assist on clinical research projects. Conducts clinical assessments of psychiatric and substance use disorders for patients with chronic pain on long-term opioid therapy participating in several clinical trials of mindfulness and other behavioral therapies funded by agencies like National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense. Provides mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and social support groups for patients participating in randomized controlled trials. Performs participant assessment and recruitment. Conducts crisis evaluation and intervention as needed. May be responsible for supervising the work of Social Workers, Interns or other caseworkers. Requirements

  • Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W. ) certificate for clinical practice and two years directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to communicate verbally as well as in writing
  • Experience with conflict resolution when counseling individuals, couples and groups required.
  • An L.C.S.W. is earned after completing 4000 hours of Social Work experience and a passing score on the L.C.S.W. exam.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with community resources, instructing and supervising Social Workers, Interns and other caseworkers preferred.
  • Five years of experience may be required in some areas.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts clinical research-based assessments of mental health and substance use.
  • Provides mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and social support groups to research participants.
  • Provides crisis evaluation and intervention for research participants.
  • Performs participant recruitment and assessment.
  • Identifies appropriate outside resources, such as community agencies, to assist patients with resuming life in their own community and how to live with the patient’s limitations.
  • Oversees and supervises Social Workers, Interns and caseworkers within area of assignment.
  • Performs duties of a clinical research coordinator as needed.
