Job Summary The University of Utah Department of Surgery is seeking an Advanced Practice Clinicians to work as night time inpatient hospitalists caring for surgical oncology patients at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. The Department of Surgery at the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Hospital highly values Advanced Practice Clinicians ( APC ) in our clinical operations in both inpatient and ambulatory practice. The Department’s oncologic services lines are looking for an Advanced Practice Clinician (NP/PA) who is a patient focused, self-motivated provider who has the ability to work effectively in an academic team environment. Our APCs are an important member of our team and work collaboratively with the team physicians. Job Summary: The Department of Surgery, in collaboration with the Huntsman Cancer Hospital Oncology surgeons’ group, located primarily at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, is seeking advanced practice clinicians to join the team. These APCs will function as nighttime hospitalists providing inpatient care for the Department of Surgery’s admitted cancer patients. The APC will have responsibilities for preliminary nighttime patient assessments, triage of questions and care requests from nursing, communication with the primary team, initial review of new surgical consults… in collaboration with the admitting attending surgeon.

Requirements

  • Required Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges.
  • Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
  • UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Evening/night coverage of urgent patient care issues of the Department of Surgery patients admitted to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital.
  • Assistance with inpatient nursing needs and nighttime inpatient consultations.
  • Assist in operating room as needed, for evening emergent return to OR cases
  • Shared responsibility for teaching residents, medical students and APC students
  • Possible active participation in developing and implementing research or quality improvement measures
  • Participation in team sign-out with the primary team resident each evening.
