About The Position

The Division of Pediatric Neurology in the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical treatment and evaluation to pediatric neurology patients in follow-up visits with modest attending physician support, with a focus on leukodystrophy patients and other pediatric neurogenetic conditions, including care coordination. The Nurse Practitioner will also participate in clinical trials for leukodystrophy patients, with responsibilities shared with the principal investigator, including physical and neurological exams, orders, and coordination of studies. Requirements

  • Required Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges.
  • Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
  • UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Provides treatment and evaluation to neurology patients in follow-up visits with attending physician support.
  • Takes complex medical histories and performs physical exams.
  • Orders lab tests, imaging and electrodiagnostic studies, as well as other diagnostic procedures.
  • Monitor and adjusts medications as necessary.
  • Reach tentative diagnoses.
  • Develops treatment plans in conjunction with the attending physician.
  • Completes visit documentation and notes in a timely manner.
  • Reviews patient and family phone messages on behalf of physicians on the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluates patients in follow-up clinical visits.
  • Updates medical histories.
  • Assesses response to treatment and side effects of medication.
  • Formulates plans for ongoing care, discusses these plans as needed with attending physicians, and communicates the plan with patients and family alike.
  • Depending on division needs and candidates’ interests/goals, there may be the opportunity to participate in subspecialty services (e.g. leukodystrophy clinic).
  • Provide coordination of patient care within Clinical Trials in partnership with the principle investigator.
