About The Position

This role builds and validates aluminum boat prototypes from raw fabrication through final rigging, then executes compliance, durability, and performance testing. You will translate engineering intent into physical boats, close the loop with engineering through disciplined documentation, and drive fast, safe iteration from prototype to production. What Success Looks Like - Prototypes are built to print, on schedule, with high craftsmanship and repeatable methods. - Test results are credible, traceable, and actionable (clear pass/fail, issues logged, fixes verified). - Build and test learnings feed back into design and manufacturing with minimal churn.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings, measurements, and specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using standard shop and rigging tools.
  • Comfortable working in a build-and-test environment with changing priorities and tight timelines.
  • Valid driver’s license; willing to support on-water testing as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience in aluminum fabrication/welding and/or marine/vehicle prototype build.
  • Proficiency with aluminum MIG welding (TIG preferred/bonus); ability to pass an in-house welding test.
  • Marine rigging experience (boat electrical/plumbing, helm systems, outboards/jet integration).
  • Familiarity with marine compliance frameworks and documentation discipline (traceability, checklists, test reports).
  • Experience with data collection tools (basic sensors, GPS-based performance logging, test instrumentation).
  • Forklift/overhead crane certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Lean/continuous improvement mindset (standard work, 5S, defect prevention).

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate aluminum prototype components and hull structures (fit-up, tack, weld-out) using MIG/TIG as required.
  • Build and modify fixtures/jigs; control distortion and verify geometry to drawings/specs.
  • Interpret prints, weld symbols, CAD screenshots, and engineering change notes.
  • Perform end-to-end prototype assembly: floors, consoles, compartments, lids, seating, rails, and hardware.
  • Rig boats including (as applicable): o Electrical: 12V wiring, harness routing, terminations, breakers/fuses, lighting, pumps, accessories. o Mechanical: steering systems, controls, throttle/shift, jack plates, power poles, livewells. o Fuel/Fluid: fuel tanks/lines, ventilation, bilge/livewell plumbing, sealants/adhesives as specified. o Powertrain install support: outboard/jet mounting support, alignment, and integration work. o Troubleshoot integration issues and propose practical fixes that maintain safety and design intent.
  • Execute test plans for compliance and product validation (per applicable internal requirements and industry/regulatory standards).
  • Instrument prototypes, collect data, and document results (photos, measurements, logs, issue tickets).
  • Support on-water and on-land performance testing: handling, speed, stability, noise/vibration, leak checks, thermal checks, and durability shake-down.
  • Identify root causes, validate countermeasures, and confirm fixes through re-test.
