Who we’re looking for Toyota’s Vehicle Prototype Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage planning, tooling & facility preparation and production of prototype vehicle bodies in the weld engineering group. Due to cyclical nature of vehicle projects the secondary responsibility will include supporting the other prototype engineering functions of assembly and evaluation during projects with no body production. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Prototype department's objective to provide evaluation and marketing vehicles for use at Toyota Motor North America Product Development locations. What you’ll be doing The required work is cyclical and will change during a project. Early project stages include CAD review of new models to confirm tooling, equipment & facility changes needed. Later stages involve managing all aspects of prototype body welding (managing tooling & parts suppliers, in-house body & paint scheduling, confirming quality of all weld/paint activities). Develop and execute overall project schedule for tracking the progress to meet project needs. Utilized CAD to develop weld process/tooling plan based on early vehicle design data. Finalize planning when production drawings are released considering safety/quality/productivity/cost. Weld/Paint tooling and fixturing design. Conduct supplier sourcing, kickoff and preparation of tooling and parts. Summarize status and report to upper management weekly. Travel to supply base to review parts and equipment. Track and follow issues to closure. Support daily weld build activities to meet vehicle quality, delivery and project KPI’s. Escalate issues to Sr. Manager in timely manner. What you bring Must have bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Chemical or Materials. Must have a minimum of 2-5 years experience from Manufacturing, Quality or Engineering experience, (including co-op experience). Experience of vehicle structures and vehicle manufacturing. Experience with 3D CAD developing weld processes/tooling plan based on early vehicle design data. Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 30% of the time during peak project periods. Willingness to work overtime up to 25% of the time including weekends during peak project periods. Added bonus if you have Experience using PolyWorks. Completed TBP with Panel. Completion of JKK and OJD reflection report for process improvement and troubleshooting/problem resolution. Terrace Experience in managing 3D Data. Experience supporting equipment installations for weld or painting equipment.
