About The Position

This Senior Body Design Engineer position is responsible for engineering the systems and components for the Mazda vehicle produced at MTMUS (Mazda Toyota Manufacturing U.S.) plant, determines engineering strategies with support from management to achieve MNAO quality and cost goals, works with Mazda Japan R&D team members, suppliers, and other related departments. Establishes R&D workflows, creates processes, and technically documents each new process while creating new business standards. Conducts research and development for Mazda. Applies research theories, principles and models when conducting experiments and research activities. Summarizes research results and communicates finding to team members and appropriate departments. Ensures projects are completed on time and under budget. Cost Reduction 40% Sets appropriate goals and strategies to ensure projects meet cost targets by reviewing engineering components and relevant systems, while working with related departments. Understands manufacturing processes of components at MNAO, the MTMUS plant and suppliers. Proposes cost improvement/reduction ideas, initiates implementation plans with Mazda Japan, and responds accordingly. Gathers U.S. market data/trends about automotive components and/or systems. Quality Improvement 20% Sets appropriate goals and strategies to hit department specified quality gargets by reviewing engineering components and relevant systems, while working with related departments. Confirms design components and/or system functions with MNAO quality team and MTMUS, both before and after implementation. Engineers evaluate supplier quality control performance with MNAO quality team and takes appropriate actions in the event engineering (drawing) research/change is required. Launch Support 20% Interprets components in charge of car drawings/specs. Validates appropriate design components installed into each build. If changes need to be made, will take suitable corrective action. Communicates design change content with related departments, takes the lead on evaluation activities, both components and vehicles if required. When defects occur during the launch build events, confirms issues with the related employees/departments, conducts investigations to determine root cause and proposes appropriate corrective actions. Business Development Process 20% Develops and establishes efficient business flows, processes and proposals technically documents them as MNAO business standards. Creates and maintains unique training materials for R&D new hires.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or another related field is required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in automotive system engineering and/or components.
  • Strong user of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks in accordance with established standards and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge MS Project or other project management tracking software.
  • Experience working with an automotive manufacturing company is preferred.
  • Familiarity with handling 3D CAD data, such like NX, CATIA.
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal.
  • Competent in analytical thinking and technical report writing.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in working in a multicultural and multilingual work environment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle systems, engineering principals and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Works well in a team demonstrating an ability to communicate laterally and vertically in an organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP) License or equivalent certification is preferred.
