About The Position

The Protective Services Supervisor (PSS) is responsible for the clinical and programmatic operation and supervision of the Protective Services Department. The PSS has direct responsibility for implementation and daily operation of the program and ensures that it operates for the maximum benefit of consumers through supervision of Protective Services Workers and on-going collaboration with other LifePath staff members, the community and the statewide Protective Services network. The role encompasses compliance with regulations, policies and procedures for operations as defined by the Executive Office of Aging and Independence (AGE).

Requirements

  • Masters degree preferred (Bachelor’s Degree considered) from an accredited school in social work, psychology, counseling, human development, nursing or gerontology.
  • Five years of direct service experience with elders.
  • Two years of supervisory and administrative or program management experience.
  • Organizational skills: Manages time effectively, prioritizes tasks, sets goals, and develops systems for achieving those goals. Attends multiple responsibilities simultaneously and handles complex projects.
  • Critical Thinking: Highly adept at interpreting statutes and regulations, manages emergency situations with sound judgment and urgency.
  • Clinical: Proficient in handling complex cases, strong assessment skills, knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
  • Communication & Interpersonal skills: Professional verbal and written communication skills. Good listening and engagement skills. Establishes rapport and effectively engages in difficult conversations. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity.
  • Leadership/Supervisory Skills: Strong supervisory skills to train, coach, evaluate, and support staff. Builds strong teams. Thinks strategic and builds alignment with program and agency goals. Inspire others. Acts as ambassador for the Protective Service Program and the greater agency.

  • Computer & Technical Proficiency: Advanced level of proficiency in software and database comprehension and practical application. Intermediate to advanced practical application of MS Word, Excel, and Google suite skills. Competence in virtual platforms such as Zoom/Google Meet and basic AV/PA set up and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues. Advanced ability to create reports, spreadsheets, linking workbooks and perform data mining and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Staffing & Staff Development: Hire and train qualified staff, develop a backup system to assure department effectiveness during problematic periods such as unexpected vacancies and high volume. Ensure staff are knowledgeable about other agency programs. Provide verbal and written evaluation of workers, identify strengths and training needs through record review, observations of workers in the field, and input from other agency professionals.
  • Supervision: Provide individual and group supervision to Protective Services staff per LifePath and AGE requirements to assure compliance with regulations and guidelines and provision of appropriate and effective casework intervention. Provide field observations of staff throughout the year. Work with staff in decisions to open and close cases.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement: Follow established audit procedures, monitor PS case records to assure compliance with LifePath and AGE regulations and guidelines. Implement and monitor strategies for improvement.
  • Community Education and Outreach: Establish and maintain positive and effective collaborative relationships with all community providers. Provide education about mandated reporting and the role of Protective Services.
  • Leadership: Provide back-up for screening and on-call as needed. Provide coverage for the Program Director at meetings as directed. Assist in developing goals and achieving outcomes.
  • Documentation: Maintain documentation as required by LifePath and AGE policies and regulations. Complete reports within required timeframes. Ensure data integrity.
  • Other: Establish and maintain effective information management and accurate and timely reporting to AGE. Serve on statewide AGE task forces and committees as requested. Attend regional meetings and training as scheduled.
