Virgin Galactic (VG) is seeking a Propulsion Technician with a background in rocket propulsion systems, preferably with hybrid or liquid propulsion. Ideally the individual will have a background in propulsion testing and/or flight operations. Experience with typical rocket propellants (LOX, Hypergols, Hydrogen, solids, cryogens, etc.) is a strong plus. This is a full-time position at Virgin Galactic’s aerospace facility in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

  • Perform rocket motor build up/tear down maintenance activities that entails instrumentation, ignition system, and mechanical systems removal/installations
  • Inspects, dismantles, adjusts, overhauls, repairs, fabricates, and assembles applicable Spaceship flight hardware/propulsion system components and/or assemblies in support of flight operations and associated ground test events
  • Basic clean room practices and processes for cleaning flight hardware components
  • Operate propulsion ground support pressure systems during propellant loading operations
  • Assist with maintenance, repair and/or modification tasks for applicable propulsion system ground support equipment components
  • Performs fabrication tasks, machine tool work and/or composite work in conjunction with the above technician work
  • Assist with developing component maintenance manuals procedures and work instructions, applicable to the defined work scope
  • Supports training program definition with direct input of hands-on knowledge from the propulsion system via different mediums as appropriate
  • Completes and signs-off work records in connection with work performed
  • Assists with operational procedures for propellant/cryogens/pressurized gases loading
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols, conducting regular inspections and risk assessments, and implementation of PPE to maintain a safe working environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 + years of experience working with high pressure fluids & gaseous systems
  • Knowledge of high-pressure system components, connection types, fittings, etc.
  • Must be familiar with procedures applicable to the various phases of maintenance, minimum 2 years of experience
  • Ability to drive heavy equipment and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License
  • Experience with control systems and electronics (to include wiring and build-up of systems)
  • Able to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to travel to different company sites in support of training and/or operations
  • Ability to pass the background check to obtain a US airport AOA and/or NMSA spaceport badge
  • Self-starter that begins, executes, and completes tasks with little to no supervision
  • Good communication skills
  • Eligibility to apply for ATF Employee Possessor permit to handle explosive materials
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Graduated from a technical college or other recognized apprenticeship
  • Experience with rocket systems and associated solid, liquid propellants and cryogens
  • Experience with composite structures (commercial or military aerospace applications)
  • Commercial Driver’s License
  • Forklift operator
  • FAA approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License)
