About The Position

The Property Tax Specialist I in the Wayne County Treasurer's Office provides exceptional customer service to taxpayers. The Property Tax Specialist 1 collect and record tax payments as well as receive and record receipts from other County offices and departments and assist in preparing payment plans for taxpayers. This position reports to the Department Supervisor and Manager in the Cashiering Division.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent; AND
  • At least four (4) years of full-time paid clerical experience performing the following duties: data entry, processing and reviewing documents, handling public contact inquiries, maintaining files and performing cashiering.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the public to determine their tax related needs.
  • Direct taxpayers to the appropriate City or County agency to remedy their situation.
  • Process all payments using PTA, PTC and the cash recyclers via the CashWare software. Payments include: Cash and check payments at the cashier windows
  • Handle Side Window Payments: re-applied payments, Receipts to Tax Authority payments, refunds with miscellaneous receipts, missing legatees and deeds
  • Process deposit from various County Departments, Jail, Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney, Retirement, Family Services, Mgmt & Budget as well as process inter-office deposits such as 911 surcharges, penal fines, stadium excise taxes, etc.
  • Balance & reconcile PTA, PTC and CashWare activity daily.
