The Montana Department of Revenue administers almost 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana. The Property Assessment Division manages Montana’s property tax laws, including the valuation of all taxable property for property tax purposes. Job Overview: This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of Department of Revenue . The Property Records Specialist (PRS) performs various duties assigned by management. They ensure that property values in the county are accurately recorded, regularly updated, and certified each year for fair and accurate property tax billings. This role supports taxpayers, county officials, and other stakeholders by maintaining reliable property records, processing ownership and sales information, and assisting with taxpayer programs and appeals. (All computer systems and tax guidelines will be trained on the job.)

  • Work experience may include appraisal, assessment, auditing, accounting, banking, data entry, bookkeeping, records management, customer service or a real estate related field.
  • Must pass the department’s CORE Assessment training, within the first year of employment.
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
  • In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver’s license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card".
  • Successful applicants are required to successfully pass DOR tax and background check(s).
