Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Project Water/Wastewater Pipeline Engineer to join our dynamic Water Business Line in either Los Angeles or San Diego, CA. In this role, you will lead and support the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater pipeline projects for municipal, utility, and private sector clients. Role accountabilities: As a Project Water/Wastewater Pipeline Engineer, you will lead and manage the design and delivery of water and wastewater pipeline projects, encompassing feasibility studies, preliminary and final design, as well as construction support. You will be responsible for developing alignments, performing hydraulic calculations, and preparing detailed design drawings and specifications for water, sewer, and recycled water pipelines. Acting as a technical point of contact for clients, you will attend meetings and support business development activities. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams that include civil, structural, environmental, and construction management professionals. You will ensure that all deliverables meet Arcadis’ quality standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will identify opportunities for process improvements, value engineering, and the integration of digital solutions such as BIM, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering (or related discipline)
  • 6-12 years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of water and/or wastewater pipeline projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., InfoWater, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS)
  • Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills
  • Proven experience coordinating with public agencies, utilities, and permitting authorities

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering
  • Experience with trenchless technologies, condition assessment, and rehabilitation of pipelines
  • Experience supporting or leading construction administration
  • Background in sustainability, climate resilience, and integrating digital tools (e.g., BIM 360, ArcGIS)
  • Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, AWWA, WEF)
