About The Position

Ambulatory Care Services at the University of Michigan Health System is seeking a Project Senior Manager to support multiple new facility builds and renovations, and operational improvement projects, related to strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring deliverables are kept on schedule and within scope. Responsibilities will include managing complex project deliverables that require collaboration across internal and external stakeholder groups. The individual will coordinate project analysis and documentation for policies and procedures, plans and specifications, and quality and safety requirements to drive decision-making and maintain project progress. The ideal candidate would have project management, healthcare operations, and/or similar background.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field (e.g. Administration, Business, Engineering, and/or Health Sciences) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 7 years of healthcare project, clinical, facilities, and/or operations management experience.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of project management, techniques, and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead all project management processes from project planning to closeout.
  • Ability to analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free of immediate directions, within the scope of their responsibility.
  • Highly analytical and has the ability to translate and communicate analysis into actionable information for problem-solving and decision-making at all levels within organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and achieve results. Strong team orientation and ability to manage in complex organizations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, including the demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other project management tools to aid in the project delivery and data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master degree in a healthcare related field (e.g. Administration, Business, Engineering, and/or Health Sciences).
  • Broad understanding of healthcare facility design and construction.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Lean or Six Sigma training/certification and experience with applying lean concepts in planning and operations analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive project plans for the management of scope, schedule, resources, risks, communications and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage project progress, with regularly reporting on project health to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Ensure coordination between internal and external teams, such as construction project team, architects and engineers, clinical stakeholders and business operations stakeholders.
  • Identify, assess, document, and resolve project issues, risks, decisions, and dependencies; escalates to appropriate stakeholders when necessary.
  • Coordinate project goals with internal regulatory and compliance teams.
  • Effectively apply logic, principles, and analytics to aid in project decision-making. Assesses complex problems, draws conclusions, and provides value-driven solutions.
  • Conducts meetings, effectively communicates, and manages change with stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains an excellent working relationship with project teams and stakeholders.
