About The Position

The College of Natural Sciences (CNS) at the University of Texas at Austin strives to foster a work environment that enables all employees to contribute at the highest possible level to support the mission of the University. Within the Dean's Office, the Research and Facilities unit serves as the central hub for all matters related to research activities and facilities projects across the college. This team manages all CNS space and oversees the planning, approval and execution of renovations and building projects, including faculty recruitment space needs, teaching and research labs, and shared facilities. The purpose of this position is to oversee selected CNS projects and maintain accurate project databases to support effective planning and execution. The role serves as the primary point of contact for furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) coordination across all projects and provides administrative and financial support, including ProCard transactions, invoicing, and purchases for Research & Facilities-funded projects. This position integrates and coordinates with project planning, design teams, CNS operations, and building management staff to ensure seamless project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, design, STEM field, business administration, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience providing project management of design and construction activities for renovations and new construction, including institutional or commercial facilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills with strong attentiveness to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous activities in a dynamic, complex environment and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when priorities may shift unexpectedly.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on a university campus in a facilities-related role.
  • Experience with planning, design, construction, commissioning, and/or operation of higher education and/or scientific facilities as the owner’s representative.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or other similar demonstration of formal project management training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, and Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with faculty, Campus Construction, Facilities Services, ITS, vendors, and contractors to ensure project requirements align with scope, existing conditions, and all applicable rules and regulations. Act as the primary liaison to facilitate communication and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with project planning and implementation, including developing scopes, schedules, and budgets; tracking progress; and addressing emergent issues with emphasis on cost and schedule control. Provide timely updates and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Maintain project databases and documentation to ensure accurate tracking and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee CNS project purchasing, including ProCard and POS transactions. Track expenditures, reconcile accounts, monitor budgets, and prepare financial reports to ensure compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for furniture, fixture, and equipment (FFE) coordination on CNS projects. Manage FFE planning and procurement for renovations and new spaces, ensuring alignment with project scope and user needs. Collaborate with end-users, designers, engineers, ITS, and building management to integrate FFE solutions into overall space planning and project execution.
  • Serve as technical liaison for specialized spaces such as research labs, ensuring design meets user needs and regulatory requirements. Oversee decommissioning and relocation of equipment and assist with data analytics for Research & Facilities planning.
  • Other related responsibilities and functions as assigned.
