About The Position

Serves as the primary point of contact for customers for orders once they are handed off from sales. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction while maintaining shop production targets, maximizing profitability for each order, and being consistent with our corporate mission, values and department objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to provide information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Background in steel fabrication is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels and customers.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Exceptional and proven organizational skills.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Extensive background in steel fabrication is required, a minimum of 5 years.
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two year college/technical school or 5 years in the structural industry is required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage smaller and simple projects up to 100 tons and a maximum of 60 projects and 9,000 tons total with the guidance of a mentor project manager.
  • Ensure that CSC detailing department is supported by providing essential contract drawings and related information from customers or outside sources.
  • Ensure that the purchasing department has received the requisitions or bill of material for steel, bolts, special paint and follows up on missing information from the project manager, engineering or drafting department.
  • Assist detailing department in providing targeted submittal dates for drawings going out for approval and deadlines for release to fabrication.
  • Review specifications, purchase orders and sales contracts to ensure that legal obligations are met and maintain project scope work is consistent with the bid.
  • Follow-up on any codes that may affect delivery in collaboration with the Credit Department.
  • Ensure that final drawings are sent and requested project documents are included if necessary.
  • Maintain records of communications with customers and update CSC systems with the appropriate dates and keep up-to-date and accurate notes.
  • Follow-up on outstanding Requests for Information from all departments.
  • Provide all necessary information to the traffic department about shipping.
  • Aid in production meeting and provide on-going updates to shop supervisors.
  • Obtain from the customer project manager the delivery schedules and follow-up (update) with the customer project manager or the erector as agreed upon.
  • Establish the fabrication schedule with the production department and coordinate it with the delivery schedule.
  • Work with mentor on extra costs originating from changes per customer demand.
  • Work with RFIs, changes or clarifications originating from the production department.
  • Follow-up on progress of fabrication and deliveries and ensure project efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Work on up to 60 projects and/or 9000 tons with limited guidance from Senior PM or PM managers.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with customers; coordinate activities with drafting/engineering, sales and estimating, shipping and production departments to determine project schedules.
  • Have ability to identify the makeup of a joist or girder along with differences of series. Be able to identify all deck types and their properties.
  • Coordinate all aspects of sublet work: specifications, detail drawings, material, delivery schedules, transportation, invoicing. Also make sure that all contractual requirements related to quality (including 3rd party inspections) and schedules are passed on to the subcontractor as a minimum.
  • Responsible for about 40 projects totaling about 20,000 tons.
  • Be a mentor and resource for PM team members’ questions. Help others to come up with alternative solutions to issues through experience.
  • Understand production capacities of the plant(s) and select appropriate fabrication and delivery slots for sizeable projects to not overload/underutilize the shop.
  • Visualize erection sequence, connection fit up and site constraints from customer interactions.
  • Identify potential job specific limitations of the shop or understand the extra time it may take to produce the project.
  • Initiate and lead Kick off meetings when needed and ensure that follow-ups are completed.
