Founded in 1986, OnTrac has evolved into the leading provider of same-day and next-day delivery services in the U.S. for premier e-commerce and product-supply businesses, including five of the largest retailers in the U.S. The Project Manager- Facilities & Material Handling Equipment manages capital projects involving conveyor systems, sortation equipment, structural steel, controls integration, and facility infrastructure within warehouse, distribution, and logistics environments and is esponsible for planning, coordinating, and executing conveyor and material handling system construction projects as well as overseeing general construction tenant improvement projects. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with design, quality, and operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of project management experience managing conveyor, material handling, or industrial construction projects..
  • Advanced knowledge of conveyor systems, sortation equipment, material handling systems, and warehouse automation.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls scope related to conveyor construction.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple contractors and projects simultaneously in active operating facilities.
  • Strong project scheduling, budgeting, and cost-control skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret conveyor drawings, layout plans, structural details, and electrical schematics.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to identify safety risks, enforce safety standards, and lead by example on construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and execute material handling and tenant improvement construction projects from concept through commissioning and handoff.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and resource plans.
  • Coordinate conveyor installation activities, including mechanical installation, electrical work, controls integration, and system testing.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for contractors, integrators, engineers, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead on-site construction activities, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and OSHA requirements.
  • Review conveyor layouts, installation drawings, shop drawings, and as-built documentation for accuracy and constructability.
  • Track project progress, manage change orders, and proactively mitigate schedule, cost, and execution risks.
  • Coordinate equipment delivery, staging, and installation sequencing to minimize impact to ongoing operations.
  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance teams to plan cutovers, startups, testing, and training.
  • Conduct site walks, safety audits, and quality inspections during construction and installation.
  • Manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, permits, schedules, and closeout packages.
  • Support commissioning, system validation, and performance acceptance of conveyor and sortation systems.
  • You prioritize safety and apply strong awareness of occupational hazards and precautions in every phase of project execution.
  • You manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining schedule and budget discipline.
  • You bring strong budgeting, forecasting, and estimating skills, staying on top of cost tracking, change orders, and financial performance.
  • You communicate clearly and manage vendors effectively, keeping stakeholders aligned on status, risks, and next steps.
  • You solve problems quickly and make sound decisions, working independently while also collaborating smoothly with teams across operating and non-operating hours.
