About The Position

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally funded program designed to assist economically and disadvantaged youth who wish to continue their education beyond the secondary level. The program provides services to eligible 6-12th graders (500 in total) in targeted middle and high schools within the Dougherty County School System. The Director will supervisor two Academic Success Coaches who under their guidance will provide academic, career and educational counseling, as well as technical assistance with the entire admission and financial aid application process. The Director also provides motivational support, academic counseling and acts as advocate for program participants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling or Education or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of experience in higher education preparatory programming, admissions, enrollment management, financial aid or three years of K-12 education experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing, articulating, and implementing a strategic recruitment, enrollment, service implementation, participant eligibility and service documentation, and student progression plan for all participants that will ensure that 500 eligible students receive ETS program services annually.
  • Administer the overall organization, development, implementation, and activities of the Talent Search program. The position will participate in community, university, and other agencies' academic support programs, services, and activities relevant to the program's goals; serve as a liaison between the university, program, and target schools within the Dougherty County School System; prepare all performance and fiscal reports; and negotiate all aspects of the program with the United States Department of Education and Albany State University
  • Work collaboratively with Dougherty County Schools System principals, counselors, teachers; other school district personnel, ASU faculty and staff, community leaders, and other partners to provide academic enrichment, tutorial services, career exploration, aptitude assessments, counseling, mentoring programs, workshops, information on postsecondary institutions; education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students.
  • Hire, train and effectively manage the performance of two full-time Academic Success Coaches and part-time academic tutors.
  • Work closely with Talent Search parents and/or guardians to inform them of high school graduation requirements, academic enrichment opportunities and college expectations.
  • Ensures ETS participant are exposed to institutions of higher education via campus tours, as well as cultural events, academic programs and activities not usually available to disadvantaged youth
  • Develop and maintain systematic data collection procedures and maintains documentation of student eligibility, monitoring student progress through college admissions and program evaluations.
