About The Position

We are seeking a Project Manager – Capital Projects to lead the planning and execution of major capital and improvement initiatives across multiple CPNA manufacturing sites. This role will manage end-to-end delivery of projects ranging from multimillion-dollar furnace and coating line upgrades to infrastructure modernization, environmental compliance, and process optimization projects. The ideal candidate is a technically strong, execution-focused leader with proven experience delivering industrial capital projects on time, within budget, and in alignment with corporate safety, engineering, and sustainability standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience managing capital projects ($5M–$30M+), preferably in steel, aluminum, oil & gas, cement, or process manufacturing industries.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong understanding of combustion systems, furnaces, ovens, coating, and process equipment.
  • Proficient in project management software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.) and standard PM methodologies (PMBOK, Stage-Gate).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage capital and improvement projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring delivery against scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Enforce adherence to BlueScope’s safety management systems and all regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, EPA, etc.).
  • Develop project scopes, justification documents, cost estimates, and capital approval packages.
  • Oversee design, procurement, construction, installation, and start-up activities; manage contractors and vendors to performance standards.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, and Finance teams to align project objectives and resources.
  • Lead prequalification, tendering, and management of EPC and specialty contractors.
  • Apply practical understanding of industrial systems including furnaces, coating lines, galvanizing, process heating, and related utilities.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks; maintain control over scope changes and contingency use.
  • Provide regular project updates, forecasts, and close-out reports to site and CPNA leadership.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to the development of project management best practices and standards across the network.
