About The Position

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients. The Project Management Analyst (PMA) supports the submarine Electrical Engineering in planning, coordinating, and executing engineering deliverables and projects associated with the SSN 774 USS Virginia Class submarine program. This role ensures electrical engineering deliverables align with program schedules, cost objectives, and quality standards. The PMA provides analytical support, reporting, and cross-functional coordination to drive successful project outcomes. This position is on-site at Newport News Shipbuilding and requires collaboration across engineering, planning, manufacturing, and program leadership teams. Adherence to shipyard safety policies and security requirements is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 1 years of relevant professional experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with shipbuilding, defense manufacturing, or complex industrial programs. Specifically, familiarity with NNS’ role with construction of SSN 774 USS Virginia Class submarines.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and maintenance of project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitor engineering progress against baseline plans and identify schedule or cost variances.
  • Assist with budget tracking, forecasting, and earned value reporting.
  • Coordinate with electrical engineers, design leads, planning, supply chain, and production teams to ensure alignment.
  • Prepare status reports, dashboards, presentations, and metrics for department leadership.
  • Track engineering change requests and ensure proper documentation and closure.
  • Identify project risks and support mitigation planning.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and communication.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation in accordance with company and program requirements.
