The Project Geologist is responsible for leading geotechnical field investigations, analyses, and report preparation for mainly single-family construction projects. This role provides technical leadership, oversees project execution, and ensures the delivery of high‑quality geological and geotechnical services to our clients in Van Nuys, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Sciences
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in geology, geotechnical investigations, and construction observations in the Los Angeles area. Experience in Malibu preferred.
  • Experience leading field programs and preparing geologic and geotechnical reports.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or managing geotechnical elements of construction projects (foundations, slopes, retaining walls, grading, etc.).
  • Professional Geologist (PG) and Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG)
  • Proficiency with geotechnical and geology-related software and tools (e.g., gINT, GIS, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, etc).
  • Ability to interpret boring logs, geologic data, and laboratory testing results.
  • Ability to perform required field and office work. Field work can include downhole logging of test pits and borings and construction observations, such as grading and foundations.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, while also performing duties in a standard office environment using typical office equipment.
  • Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, up to five days per week, as required by the project or management.
  • Standard schedule is Monday–Friday 8am to 4:40pm; however, early mornings, extended hours, and occasional weekends may be required depending on field operations.
  • Field visits will be required to support project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality geological and geotechnical services that meet quality and schedule expectations.
  • Develop field exploration plans, sampling programs, and geotechnical/material testing plans tailored to project needs.
  • Lead and perform field investigations, including backhoe test pits, and hand labor test pits, and drilling, sampling, logging, and field mapping.
  • Prepare comprehensive geologic and geotechnical reports which include boring and test pit logs, geologic maps and cross sections, and geologic analyses.
  • Support project engineering related to foundation recommendations, slope stability, retaining walls, and other development components.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, quality control, and budget tracking.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with clients and other consultants.
