The Project Engineering Manager leads a team responsible for implementing innovative material handling and storage solutions for clients in the warehousing and manufacturing sectors. This role requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and customer-facing experience to ensure the successful execution of complex automation and warehouse storage projects. Solutions include racking systems, shuttles, conveyors, autonomous vehicles, and automated storage/retrieval systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in material handling systems design or implementation.
  • 2+ years of experience in leadership or management role. Experience in an indirect leadership role is also acceptable for an otherwise qualified candidate.
  • Strong understanding of racking systems, conveyors, AS/RS, autonomous vehicles, and related technologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Project Managers.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee workload distribution, performance evaluations, and professional development plans.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource in project design phases.
  • Perform detailed reviews of design and order documentation to identify discrepancies and risks.
  • Oversee planning and execution of multiple concurrent projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Monitor project health across the portfolio, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure timely resolution of escalated project issues and resource constraints.
  • Review and approve project work plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with sales, engineering, suppliers, and clients.
  • Contribute to the development of project management/engineering standards, best practices, and process improvements.
  • Analyze project outcomes to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance project efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide additional applications engineering bandwidth when required.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with manufacturers and subcontractors.
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies in material handling and automation to guide solution innovation.
