About The Position

The Sea Systems team is seeking a highly qualified candidate to function as Project Engineering team Functional Manager and Project Engineer in support of our USV product development initiatives and our contract programs. The strong candidate will have demonstrated project engineering and leadership skills, a broad knowledge base in multiple engineering disciplines, and be able to execute in R&D, engineering services, and production programs. This role will include functional management of 3-5 project engineers in addition to maintaining project engineering oversight over assigned program(s). The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills in execution of this role: Management Skills Manage a team of engineers – fostering professional and technical growth. Set goals and expectations for project engineers aligned with organizational objectives. Provide mentorship for development technical, execution, and leadership skills. Perform annual performance reviews and provide feedback on strengths and development areas. Create and oversee development plans and career development opportunities. Assign and reallocate resources as project needs change. Project Engineering Skills Act as an advisor to management and customers on project technical execution and decision making. Develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships. Provide expert knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle by leading project execution through the associated phases and gates. Lead cross-functional engineering teams from initial development through sustainment activities. Have an excellent understanding of system configuration management and control processes through the product development phases for product baselines such as requirements, hardware and software. Lead technical and cost proposals. Confidently develop and peer review cost Basis of Estimates. Collaborate closely with Program Management to tightly control program schedules and budgets, be accountable for the engineering cost account management and overarching battleplans for assigned projects. Navigate and lead multidisciplinary teams through complex technical problems and provide solutions. Work cross-functionally with Operations and Supply Chain on prototyping and production activities. Resolve schedule, resource, and technical conflicts. Collaborate with engineering functional managers to organize and delegate key tasks. Identify risks and develop mitigation plans for project execution. Provide recommendations to senior management regarding critical risk acceptance. Peer review risks for other projects upon request. Develop subcontract statements of work and manage outside subcontractor performance as needed. Travel in support of project execution and testing as required, up to 15%25.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related technical field) with 10 or more years of experience including a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated project engineering experience.
  • Experience in program planning, schedule, and cost account management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with customers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team through the engineering lifecycle.
  • Effective writing and presentation skills.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio).
  • Active Secret Clearance preferred; Secret eligibility required.
