About The Position

Spicer Group is actively seeking a highly talented and self-motivated Project Engineer to join our Drinking Water/Wastewater Service Group. The Project Engineer specializes in drinking water and wastewater systems, leading the technical design, analysis, and delivery of water infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include managing design teams, coordinating with clients and contractors, ensuring regulatory compliance and quality, and guiding field activities from feasibility through commissioning. This role blends engineering excellence with project management and risk mitigation, to deliver safe, resilient, and cost-effective water solutions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal teams, clients, and contractors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of multitasking across different project tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to lead and develop a team of engineers and technicians

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; pursuit of P.E. or equivalent licensure encouraged
  • 4+ years of experience in drinking water and/or wastewater engineering, including design, construction, and environmental design, as well as all aspects of project development, including budgeting and administrative issues with a project
  • Understanding of treatment processes (drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment)
  • Proficiency with hydraulic and process modeling software (WaterCAD/WaterGEMS/SewerCAD, or similar)
  • Experience with design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS

Responsibilities

  • Assist with leading technical design and delivery of drinking water and wastewater projects (permits, hydraulic modeling, treatment process design, pump stations, pipelines, convergences with OA/SCADA, GUDI considerations, headworks, disinfection, residuals management, and nutrient removal as applicable)
  • Conceptualize the initial design approach for major phases of large projects
  • Lead/participate in feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and screening-level designs; perform sizing, hydraulic modeling, contaminant and compliance analyses
  • Participate with preparation of construction drawings, high-level engineering calculations or models, and technical specifications, and cost estimates
  • Provide project-specific technical information to the design staff and project manager for incorporation into the project specifications and construction drawings
  • Interface with clients to gather requirements, present technical findings, provide procurement support, and assist with bid evaluation and contract administration
  • Support, review, and coordinate with CAD team members
  • Coordinate and communicate with team members, clients, contractors, outside consultants, and utility companies
  • Participate in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act), permits, and design standards (AWWA, EPA, TCEQ/DEQ, NFPA, OSHA)
  • Make periodic visits to construction sites as appropriate to review conditions
  • Prepare written correspondence, technical specifications, and reports in accordance with company and client standards
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental stewardship on all projects
  • May serve as project manager, holding overall responsibility for the engineering work, on projects of limited scope
  • May supervise for technicians, designers, administrative personnel, or entry-level engineering staff
  • Physical presence is an essential function of this job.
