About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Project Engineer within our Engineering Department at our East Chicago, Indiana facility. As a Project Engineer at Indiana Harbor, you will be responsible for developing and implementing Capital projects from inception, design engineering, procurement, construction and start-up in all areas of the facility. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Three (3) years of technical related engineering experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Background in project management and planning including project scope and cost development, equipment design, procurement, construction management, and start-up
  • Experience with AutoCAD

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in development and implementation of Major Capital Projects in the steel industry
  • Experience with production facilities and equipment design, troubleshooting and problem resolution, operations and maintenance requirements in heavy industry

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple capital projects, maintenance projects and/or facility rehabilitations on schedule and within budget by preparing capitol appropriations requests, establishing and reviewing schedule, and reviewing and approving design drawings
  • Ensure project safety planning and compliance
  • Assist plant operations and maintenance departments with technical issues related to the production process, equipment, buildings, and facilities within the plant
  • Participate in cross-functional teams in the implementation of major capital improvements
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to define and quantify the project benefits and/or justification
  • Develop technical specifications for procurement of major equipment and materials from various suppliers, and for competitive bidding of construction packages by qualified contractors
  • Coordinate shop inspections during equipment manufacturing and/or factory acceptance tests, as necessary
  • Provide technical advice, calculations, inspections, failure investigations, evaluations or other assistance as required by plant operations, maintenance or other departments, to solve specific problems or for the general improvement of plant equipment and facilities
  • Other duties as assigned
