The Opportunity: Avantor is looking for a Project Engineer to be accountable for providing engineering leadership and technical support to Avantor’s operations, directly supporting manufacturing. The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing projects from conception to completion, which involves planning, design, and execution while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. This is a full-time position and will be located at our Phillipsburg, NJ office. How you will thrive and create an impact: Project management - Lead all phases of capital and non-capital projects, from initial scope and feasibility studies to final startup and commissioning. Develops and manages project budgets and schedules, tracking key performance indicators to ensure projects are complete on time, on budget, and with the desired outcome. Leads and manages project teams throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, execution, and closure. Directs contractors and hourly employees to install equipment, monitor processes, collect data, and make process modifications. Prepares engineering documents such as Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, and heat and material balances. Utilizes the Management of Change (MOC) process throughout project timeline. Interfaces with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Marketing, Customer Service, R&T, and customers; participates in routine communication between each of these groups and the business. Analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement, including cost reduction, efficiency improvement, safety and quality improvements. Provides timely and effective data analysis, root cause analysis, corrective and preventative action execution in response to process trends or out of control data points, or any other issues as they arise. Accountable for tracking process reliability, developing corrective action reports and complaint responses, implement process improvements and corrective actions Develops batch production records/standard operating procedures to ensure Process of Record compliance Performs other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated complex problem solving expertise and experience.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Demonstrated application of SPC tools and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of financial/cost systems and standard operating procedures process.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulation relative to process safety in a PSM regulated operation.
  • Demonstrated organizational, technical leadership, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to understand analytical procedures, quantify analytical results, and make adjustments and corrections as needed.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • General knowledge of chemistry and high purity chemical processing/engineering, and microelectronic applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA, cGMP, ISO 9000 and applicable state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge and experience in distillation and separation purification technologies, chemical synthesis unit operations, process control, environmental control systems, and clean manufacturing.
