We are seeking a high-performing Project Engineer who wants more than a job—someone motivated to learn the business, take responsibility early, and grow into a leadership role within our Paving Division. The Opportunity As a Project Engineer at Waters Construction, you will play a key role in the execution of complex Connecticut DOT Pavement preservation projects across Connecticut. This position offers hands-on exposure to both field operations and project controls, providing a strong foundation for advancement into Project Management or Operations leadership. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience in heavy civil or paving construction preferred
  • Working knowledge of CT DOT specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Experience in Microsoft Project or Primavera scheduling software.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, HCSS products, or similar construction software
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication
  • High level of accountability and integrity
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Desire to learn, improve, and take on increasing responsibility

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily project documentation, including logs, submittals, and reporting to keep work compliant and on schedule
  • Track production, quantities, and costs, contributing to accurate weekly cost-to-revenue reporting
  • Support project scheduling and resource planning, including labor, equipment, and materials
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, DOT representatives, and project owners to ensure alignment and timely payment
  • Review plans, specifications, and CT DOT requirements to support quality execution
  • Spend time both in the field and the office, gaining a complete understanding of how successful projects are built
