About The Position

Project Engineer | Traffic Engineering At HRG , we pride ourselves on being an employee-owned, nationally recognized consulting engineering, planning, and infrastructure solutions firm. We are actively seeking a Project Engineer | Traffic Engineering in our Morgantown, WV office. As a Project Engineer | Traffic Engineer with HRG , you will be responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of transportation projects with an emphasis on traffic design projects. In this role, you will assist with project schedules, budgets, technical documentation, and stakeholder communication to ensure traffic engineering and construction activities align with design standards, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure
  • Four (4) or more years of experience related to traffic engineering projects
  • Experience using engineering and traffic-related software
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective utilization of common business platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting tools, project management systems, etc.
  • Flexibility to travel to job sites, meetings, and other offices as necessary, which may include overnight stays
  • Valid US Driver’s License is required
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and develop detailed traffic engineering designs and plans that serve as the foundation for construction and implementation, including technical specifications and contract documents defining project scope, deliverables, and timelines
  • Gather and analyze project-related data such as existing traffic conditions, site constraints, environmental considerations, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Conduct technical studies to support traffic design decisions and assist with permit applications and compliance activities involving local municipalities, WVDOH, PennDOT, and other regulatory agencies
  • Review and verify traffic-related calculations, designs, and documentation prepared by other employees to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations
  • Perform site visits to observe construction and traffic-related work, confirm adherence to plans and specifications, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Identify deviations from contract specifications related to traffic engineering elements and collaborate with the project team to resolve issues and meet contractual obligations
  • Coordinate and communicate with regulatory agencies, attend meetings, and provide required documentation or clarifications to support timely permit approvals
  • Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams by assisting with submittals, change orders, and ongoing project documentation
  • Interact professionally and effectively with employees, clients, agency representatives, and other stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of traffic engineering projects
