Requirements

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or actively pursuing EIT
  • Demonstrated experience managing spreadsheets and project tracking logs
  • Ability to perform quantity takeoffs and yield checks
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Experience with IDOT documentation of contract quantities and pay applications
  • Proficiency with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel to project sites
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Adaptability to manage unexpected challenges such as delays, utility conflicts, and emergencies
  • Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills in resolving field and construction issues

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage key components of engineering and construction projects to ensure alignment with project goals, client expectations, and regulatory requirements
  • Review and manage project documentation including submittals, RFIs, change orders, pay applications, and progress reports
  • Maintain and update the pay application log; verify paid and incidental quantities
  • Perform QC/QA activities in accordance with SSRBC standards to ensure compliance with project specifications
  • Conduct yield checks and resolve contractor misunderstandings related to pay applications and contract requirements
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to proactively identify and resolve construction challenges
  • Track project schedules and identify potential delays related to utilities, approvals, and submittal reviews
  • Prepare resident notification letters, meeting agendas, and meeting minutes
  • Support change order development with clear documentation and justification
  • Lead emergency response coordination for utility hits and urgent field issues
  • Conduct field inspections to monitor construction quality, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Perform peer reviews of drawings and calculations
  • Facilitate clear, proactive communication with stakeholders including: Contractors and contractor foremen Residents and community members Alderman’s office CDOT DWM Water and Sewer DEO CMQA QC Plan and Landscape groups
  • Coordinate closely with DWM sewer and water inspectors
  • Support and participate in client meetings by providing accurate updates and documentation
  • Mentor junior staff and support professional development
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes
