About The Position

The Project Engineer 3 (PE3) serves as a senior technical leader and cross-functional integrator within Gridworks' renewable-energy EPC organization. This role owns complex design scopes across multiple disciplines and ensures engineering deliverables meet Gridworks' standards for quality, cost efficiency, and constructability. Project Engineer IIIs act as the primary technical authority on assigned projects, mentor junior engineers, support project management decisions, and drive standardization and innovation across Gridworks' design processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in renewable energy or construction projects.
  • Familiarity with PV & BESS systems, construction drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft O.ice Suite; experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore, or project management software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Certifications such as PMP, NABCEP, EIT, or PE are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering design e.orts for utility-scale solar, BESS, and substation systems.
  • Serve as technical authority for design optimization, quality assurance, and compliance with EPC contracts.
  • Validate and approve final design packages for Issued-for-Construction (IFC) release.
  • Conduct advanced design reviews to ensure constructability, system reliability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Integrate lessons learned across Gridworks projects into standard design templates and specifications.
  • Deliver pre-sales technical assessments to support business development e.orts.
  • Manage complex project engineering deliverables across multiple active sites.
  • Align design execution with schedule, procurement, and construction milestones.
  • Lead coordination between engineering, project management, procurement, and construction to ensure seamless EPC integration.
  • Drive value engineering e.orts to improve lifecycle cost, maintain reliability, and enhance project profitability.
  • Interpret and manage EPC engineering contracts and subcontracts to ensure compliance and clarity.
  • Represent Gridworks as the technical lead in client, utility, and permitting authority meetings.
  • Develop and present design progress updates, risk assessments, and engineering status reports.
  • Provide technical guidance to subcontractors and external engineering partners.
  • Manage and respond to construction RFIs in coordination with the Engineering Project Coordinator.
  • Communicate design changes and approvals e.iciently through Procore, ensuring clarity and traceability.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and close-out.
  • Resolve constructability issues and clarify design intent.
  • Apply field knowledge to improve design feasibility and support real-time problemsolving.
  • Champion engineering excellence by driving Gridworks' best practices, QA/QC standards, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers (Assistant Project Engineers through PE2s), fostering technical proficiency and leadership readiness.
  • Advance strategic initiatives by leading the standardization of design tools, templates, and knowledge libraries.
  • Ensure designs incorporate safety and reliability principles.
