Project Engineer - Hardware

SageNew York, NY
4d$147,000 - $184,000Hybrid

About The Position

As Project Engineer, you will own the execution backbone for our hardware programs as we transition from design into manufacturing transfer and production. You’ll keep vendors and internal teams aligned, maintain a schedule that reflects reality, surface risks early, and drive decisions to closure. This is a high-ownership role for someone who likes building the operating system: the cadences, tools, and change control discipline that let a fast-moving team ship hardware without chaos.

Requirements

  • 6+ years owning hardware program execution through manufacturing transfer and production ramp
  • Demonstrated experience driving CM/ODM and supplier deliverables with clear cadence and escalation paths
  • Working experience with change control and document control (ECR/ECO/ECN or equivalent) in a production environment
  • Proven ability to run integrated schedules, manage dependencies, and drive cross-functional execution without authority
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive-ready status and escalation clarity

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in connected devices, IoT, or safety-critical hardware environments
  • Experience standing up or scaling a change control / document control system in a startup
  • Familiarity with manufacturing test strategy, fixture development, and yield learning loops
  • Exposure to reliability planning and failure triage workflows from builds or field feedback
  • Experience mentoring others or growing into people leadership through program ownership

Responsibilities

  • Own the integrated program schedule and keep it continuously true, highlighting critical path, decision points, and recovery plans
  • Lead vendor execution across CM/ODM and key partners by driving deliverables, timelines, and fast issue closure
  • Drive manufacturing transfer readiness by aligning DFM/DFT actions, build plans, work instructions, and release criteria
  • Implement and run a lightweight document control and change control system that scales, including ECR intake and ECO rollout
  • Establish and run program cadence, including build readiness reviews, weekly status, and action tracking with clear owners and dates
  • Surface and manage program risks by maintaining a living risk register and driving mitigation burn-down with accountable owners
  • Coordinate build execution by ensuring test readiness, fixture availability, provisioning flow clarity, and failure triage loops
  • Track program-level budget buckets and forecasts, flagging cost growth early and driving tradeoff decisions
  • Translate between engineering detail and leadership clarity by delivering crisp updates, escalations, and decision framing
  • Partner with Systems Engineering, Ops, and Quality to keep requirements, verification, and sustainment needs aligned across releases
