The Company feels that three shared days in the office and two days with the option of working remotely allows for both collaborative time and quiet space for deep work. Eligible employees for hybrid work are required to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There may be a need for additional office days based on specific business requirement. The Developer Services Project Coordinator supports the delivery of exceptional service to customers and shareholders by managing developer extension activities for The Maine Water Company. This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Developer Extension and New Service Installation work in the State of Maine—from initial customer contact through project design, construction, contract management, and final reconciliation over the 10‑year life of each agreement. The role ensures that water main extensions and new service installations are planned, designed, negotiated, and executed in accordance with Company standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to obtain a Distribution System Operator Certification within one year of hire.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans and technical documents.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including use of project management and office software.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with developers, municipal and state agencies (including the Maine PUC, DHHS, DEP, Housing Authorities, and environmental organizations such as the SRCC), and individual applicants to prepare, review, and negotiate designs and plans for water main extension projects and new service connections.
  • Interpret and apply regulations related to water service and water main extensions to ensure full compliance with state and local authorities.
  • Develop project cost estimates, design requirements, material and installation costs, and construction sequencing in accordance with Company policies. Evaluate and approve each step of the developer extension process and ensure project costs remain within the agreed‑upon budget or maintain the ability to justify project overages.
  • Analyze and design relocations of Maine Water Company assets required for state and local projects. Negotiate, contract, coordinate, and manage these projects through completion.
  • Prepare contracts, applications, and supporting documentation for water main extension and new service installation work. Monitor process performance and report trends and cost impacts to supervisors.
  • Coordinate developer refunds, customer billing, and Company contributions in accordance with Maine Public Utilities Commission rules and regulations, working closely with the accounting team following project true‑up.
  • Recommend and implement new processes, standards, and initiatives that improve efficiency and enhance customer and Company outcomes.
  • Coordinate new main extensions and service installations across internal departments, including engineering, operations, customer service, revenue, and accounting.
  • Oversee consultant activities related to inspection services and the preparation of as‑built documentation for water main extension projects.
  • Conduct pre‑construction meetings and resolve construction‑related issues associated with water main extensions and new service installations.
  • Review, approve, and code all invoices associated with Developer Services projects. Verify construction costs, including labor and consultant expenses, as needed.
  • Perform regular site visits to monitor construction progress, contractor performance, and adherence to safety requirements.
  • Provide technical and operational support across the Company as needed.
  • Represent the Company at regulatory, municipal, and technical meetings, including town meetings related to Company plans or projects involving water main extensions and new service installations.
  • Uphold and promote a safe workplace by following all Company safety rules, OSHA regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements, and ensuring others do the same.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and requested.
