OVERVIEW Marathon Petroleum Company’s Illinois Refining Division in Robinson, IL is seeking a Project Controls Manager to lead the Engineering Department Project Controls team. The Project Controls Manager will report to the Refining Engineering Director and is responsible for guiding and mentoring the Project Controls team. This includes providing clear strategic direction, ensuring effective collaboration, and overseeing all project controls activities to support the successful achievement of project goals. Relocation is approved for this position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Seven (7) years or more of project management, project controls, and execution experience with a focus on large scale projects
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Organizing, planning, critical thinking, and communication
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in dynamic refining environment
  • Ability to navigate and understand project schedules in Primavera

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management
  • Ten (10) years or more of project controls or project management experience
  • Project construction or field execution experience
  • Previous experience in the refining or petrochemical industry
  • Experience with Marathon Systems (Primavera P6. IPS, iCON, iTAR, RCR, SAP)

Responsibilities

  • Leads the project controls team, providing guidance and support, and fostering collaboration among team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Facilitates communication among project stakeholders, informs stakeholders about project developments, changes, and challenges related to project controls discipline.
  • Prepares and presents regular reports on project status to stakeholders, highlighting any issues, opportunities, risks, or deviations from the plan.
  • Manages all aspects of cost management, schedule management, and budgeting efforts on a project, program, or event during its lifecycle. This includes overseeing the project's budget development, cost estimation, tracking expenditures, and ensuring that financial resources are allocated appropriately.
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules, ensuring that timelines are realistic and adhered to, and updating schedules as needed based on project progress.
  • Tracking project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess whether the project is on track in terms of time, cost, and scope.
  • Manages overall budget portfolio (development & reporting) of multiple projects, events, and programs within a division.
  • Supports management and teams on selecting, prioritizing, and developing projects in a way that aligns with the division’s strategic goals and maximizes overall value.
  • Ensures the use and understanding of other project systems tools and procedures along with ensuring projects comply with corporate policies, applicate RSP project controls deliverable requirements and industry standards.
  • Analyzes data and metric trends effectively to make informed decisions that drive organizational success.
  • Grasps complex business situations, anticipates challenges, and seizes opportunities.
  • Supports development of strategies to manage the risk or opportunity and monitor throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provides project and division management with the necessary tools & training for project control deliverables, procedures, and processes.
  • Manages and documents customization of project control systems to meet specific project requirements.
  • Travels up to 25%
  • Participates in turnaround events as required.
