About The Position

The Project Controls Manager is responsible for supporting the financial and operational success of projects across the electrical, HVAC, and plumbing divisions. This role also supports the continued growth of HVAC and plumbing operations through involvement in pre-construction, assembly development, and estimating support. This position will also play a key role in supporting pre-construction efforts, including helping build internal processes, developing assemblies, and assisting with estimating as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to interpret budgets, forecasts, job cost reports, and cost trends.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop, track, and maintain schedules and project controls documentation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively across field and office teams.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, submittals, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • 3–5 years of experience in project controls, project management, construction operations, or a related role within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction project lifecycles, cost control, procurement, scheduling, change management, and project documentation.
  • Experience with buyouts, subcontract administration, forecasting, and budget tracking.
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project closeout requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background screening in accordance with company policies.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods and work at a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions throughout the workday, including typing.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, vendor locations, and meetings as needed.
  • Combination of office and field environments.
  • Frequent interaction with construction job sites, which may include exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction site conditions.
  • Must be able to comply with all company and site-specific safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with project management, scheduling, accounting, or ERP software preferred.
  • Experience supporting mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical construction projects preferred.
  • Experience supporting pre-construction or estimating efforts is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee HVAC and plumbing buyout activities, including procurement planning, vendor selection, and subcontract execution for assigned projects.
  • Works closely with project managers, field teams, subcontractors, vendors, and pre-construction personnel to help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with company and contract requirements.
  • Assist with cost-to-complete forecasting, budget development, and ongoing budget management to help ensure project profitability.
  • Track and manage project financial performance, including cost reporting, commitments, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules to support timely execution and coordination across internal teams.
  • Manage change orders from identification through pricing, documentation, submission, and execution.
  • Coordinate and maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors to support successful project delivery.
  • Prepare for and participate in project meetings, including communication with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure assigned projects meet contractual, operational, and documentation requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate project records and system documentation, and support project closeout activities including final documentation, turnover packages, and administrative completion.
  • Help develop assemblies, cost tools, and related resources to improve planning, estimating, and project setup.
  • Support estimating efforts as needed, including scope review, quantity takeoff assistance, pricing coordination, and pre-construction planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.
