About The Position

The Project Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Accounting Department, Project Management teams, and external partners such as vendors and subcontractors. This individual is responsible for executing daily accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial records, and maintaining compliance with company standards and industry regulations. The ideal candidate is confident, detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable communicating across multiple levels of the business. A strong background in commercial construction accounting is preferred.

Requirements

  • Expertise in construction accounting, understanding job cost reports, AP/AR workflows, lien waivers, billing cycles, and month-end close in a construction environment.
  • Hands-on experience with construction accounting systems, preferably Vista by Viewpoint.
  • Proficiency in navigating general ledger and job cost modules.
  • Effective vendor and subcontractor management skills.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing monthly billings, maintaining accurate job costing, and supporting audit/tax schedules.
  • Capability to coordinate timely and accurate month-end close processes, including reconciliations and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing competing deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Vista by Viewpoint or similar construction accounting software.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with a customer-service mindset.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills for resolving discrepancies in AP and job cost reports.
  • Self-starter with collaboration skills across departments and external parties.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the company professionally with clients, vendors, and trade partners.
  • Respond promptly to vendor inquiries via phone and email.
  • Monitor accounting entries for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to prepare monthly billings.
  • Perform daily AP transactions: classify, compute, post, and verify records.
  • Reconcile AP aging reports with vendor statements.
  • Collect, verify, and submit subcontractor lien waivers.
  • Process payment applications, material invoices, and G&A expenses.
  • Maintain and reconcile company credit card statements.
