About The Position

The Project Accountant plays a key role in supporting Bateman Civil Survey’s operational and financial success by managing the financial lifecycle of our survey projects from start to finish. This position works closely with department leadership, project managers, and accounting team to ensure accurate billing, timely reporting, and consistent cost tracking across all active projects. The person in this role will oversee project budgets, monitor expenses, reconcile job costs, and prepare detailed financial reports that help guide day-to-day decision-making. They will also be responsible for maintaining organized project records, coordinating with clients on invoicing matters, and ensuring all financial data aligns with company standards and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably in civil, surveying, engineering, or construction environments preferred
  • Direct experience with Unanet AE highly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen, analytical ability, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data visualization/reporting tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to independently manage tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain projects in Unanet AE with accurate budget, labor, billing, and contract data.
  • Track and report on project costs, labor utilization, and budget-to-actual performance.
  • Prepare accurate client invoices in accordance with contracts and milestones.
  • Collaborate with Department Leadership and Project Managers to monitor WIP (Work in Progress), assist with revenue recognition, and maintain audit-ready financial records.
  • Monitor outstanding invoices and collection activity, providing weekly status reports to the department manager.
