About The Position

Project Accountant Job Summary: KDM is searching for a Project Accountant to join our growing team. This role plays a critical part in supporting the financial success of our projects by overseeing project accounting activities with a strong focus on billing, compliance, and financial reporting. Working closely with Project Managers and internal teams, the Project Accountant helps ensure projects are financially sound, accurately billed, and aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other industry-related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably project accounting experience within the AEC industry (Architecture/Engineering/Construction)
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Proficiency with financial software (e.g., Unanet, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong coordination skills with a high attention to detail
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  • Must be willing to comply with all pre-employment screening, including but not limited to, drug testing, reference verification, education and employment verification, and background screening
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering degree required or commensurate experience
  • 2-3 year project management experience
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Proficient or familiar with Primavera, P6, Power BI
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting activities for assigned projects.
  • Serve as the project accountant, focusing on project management and billing.
  • Support project teams with accounting-related questions and needs.
  • Manage invoices, payments, and ensure compliance for assigned projects.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant compliance requirements.
  • Monitor project cost versus budgets in Unanet (ERP Software). Use client portals to support accounting operations.
  • Support effective client relationships; create, submit, and revise client invoices.
  • Prepare and process billing statements to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Prepare project weekly/ monthly reports or payroll certifications required by clients, as needed.
  • Monitor and manage collections, receivable income, outstanding Accounts Receivables (AR), and follow up on aged invoices via email or phone in order to resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Manage accounts payable operations, including verifying invoices and coordinating payments.
  • Prepare, review, and process subconsultant agreements and invoices.
  • Ensure up-to-date maintenance of client contracts that reflect project needs.
  • Engage with and support Project Managers with pending Contract Amendments, Releases, and Supplements.
  • Audit timecards, expense reports, and vehicle costs.
  • Oversee financial aspects of service, vendor, and supplier contracts, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with project managers to monitor budgets and track expenses, provide strategic accounting support and drive organizational goals.
  • Maintain organized records of all project-related financial transactions.
  • Assist in audits and ensure adherence to internal financial controls.
  • Oversee project-related financial operations, including job costing, budgeting, and revenue tracking.
  • Ensures compliance with the Company’s financial policies and procedures, including revenue recognition and payables processing.
  • Manages project document repositories and contract compliance.
  • Reviews monthly subcontractor/vendor pay requests against contract expectations related to budget & required support.
  • Analyzes and forecasts project profitability, revenue, budgets, and margin.
  • Forecasting: Assist project managers with forecasting future financial performance based on current project status and historical data.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on financial objectives and reporting.
