About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant II with a strong background in government contracts to join our Accounting team. This role involves monitoring the progress of government projects, ensuring proper financial oversight, and supporting reporting activities. The ideal candidate will excel at managing multiple priorities and have a passion for building processes from the ground up. This position is based in Austin, TX and reports to the Manager of Project Accounting.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience in government construction and/or government project accounting.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and operations with the ability to analyze and provide insights.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ownership mindset for tasks from start to finish.
  • Experience with ERP systems and budgeting software tools.
  • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, Lookups, macros, and reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field from an accredited institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Active or inactive CPA license preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Procore strongly preferred.
  • Experience in revenue recognition and managing large budgets is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain project expense reports, including reviewing and processing change orders, budget adjustments, and internal scope changes.
  • Monitor and record allocations for job costing of specific projects periodically.
  • Analyze project expenses and budget-to-actual reports with construction project managers on a weekly basis.
  • Provide percentage-of-completion data to support revenue recognition.
  • Perform monthly invoicing for time and materials and firm fixed-price contracts, ensuring billings comply with contract terms.
  • Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable and project accounting systems, tracking invoiced-to-date and remaining funds for all task orders.
  • Conduct final invoice reviews to ensure compliance with contract requirements for timely payment.
  • Participate in special projects and perform ad hoc tasks as needed.
  • Support the development of reporting and accounting processes as the company scales.
  • Prepare schedules, journal entries, calculate accruals, and perform account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end close to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Support annual financial statement audits and interact with external auditors during the year-end process.
  • Focus predominantly on government contracts with occasional opportunities to impact the private sector.
