About The Position

Willdan is a national leader in energy, engineering, and software consulting services. Since 1964, we have provided all aspects of municipal and infrastructure engineering, including building and safety, public works, public financing, planning, and construction management services. We help engineers, facility owners, municipalities, and utilities meet their long-term goals and transition communities to clean energy and a sustainable future. We are seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Project Accountant I in our NYC office. The Project Accountant will be an integral member of the Willdan Energy regional offices, focused on tracking and reporting incurred and committed costs, aiding in revenue recognition and forecasting future results for multiple contracts and projects for the designated region, and serving as a liaison between the regional offices and the Willdan Corporate Accounting Department. Our growing firm needs your attention to detail in support of our accounting and administrative functions. This position requires an excellent team player who is comfortable working with our leadership team and staff to ensure that our accounting system is running smoothly.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years’ professional accounting experience.
  • Experience in project accounting is highly desired.
  • Previous experience with Deltek Costpoint or other project (cost) accounting system.
  • Experience managing deadlines and multiple collaborators in a fast-paced environment.
  • GAAP and SOX experience.
  • A proven team player with strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and critical thinking skills.
  • High proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Discretion in handling sensitive/confidential business information.
  • Demonstrated interest in clean energy and/or the environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project accounting is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up new projects in compliance with revenue recognition standards and contract language.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate recording of time and expenses to jobs, including subcontractor invoices.
  • Performing month end expense accruals for incurred costs.
  • Ensuring accurate matching of purchase orders and subcontracts to subsequent invoices.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate billing to customers and assisting in collection efforts.
  • Reviewing revenue recognition calculations and ensuring their timely submission to corporate accounting.
  • Preparing monthly reports on project performance and reconciling variances.
  • Performing expense allocation verification, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Assisting in monthly revenue recognition, billing, and financial closing.
  • Ensuring internal processes are compliant with SOX controls.
  • Assisting with special projects and other work as requested.
