About The Position

This position is responsible for the development of the district's annual and multiyear transportation programs for highway improvements, roadway data collection and input, traffic studies activities, and for preliminary and construction cost estimates.Essential Functions Develops the multi-year program to improve transportation services based upon current and anticipated needs. Participates in determination of project scope and initial project cost estimating in view of needs and limited resources. Collects, reports, and maintains accurate, current, and complete physical characteristics of existing transportation facilities to achieve up-to-date information reliability for the Illinois Roadway Information System, various maps, mileage tables, and special reports. Establishes programs by category and monitors changing conditions and regulations to keep programs current. Coordinates planning studies, which provide the database for programming and determines eligibility for project improvements. Evaluates past program effectiveness in resolving systems deficiencies. Supervises, trains, and motivates subordinate personnel. Performs duties in accordance with departmental safety policies. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to a fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional districtwide travel.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures that govern the design of highway projects; and ability to analyze and solve highway engineering problems.
  • Experience with Phase I studies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
