About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and directing the operation required for giving design approval and obtaining approval of all design exceptions for all highway projects on the Illinois state system of highways. This position is also responsible for reviewing the Annual and Multi-Year Programs for the Office of Program Development to assure the proper design and funding are being utilized.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires current registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Requires frequent statewide travel and occasional out-of-state travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight years of experience in the practice of civil engineering of which at least five years should be in the specific area of highway engineering, two years of which should include the development of significant highway projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
  • Ability to plan, organize, execute and evaluate administrative program requirements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs the coordination, review and approval of project studies within the Illinois state system.
  • Ensures that all requirements of federal oversight relating to corridor and design approval are met.
  • Resolves special technical and managerial problems related to complicated and high priority projects.
  • Ensures public involvement in the development stages of project studies.
  • Obtains approval of all design exceptions for projects on the state system.
  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates staff to ensure a well-developed and competent staff in accomplishing all assignments.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
