The internship is for a period of 6 months. This internship is UNPAID and can be in person from New York, fully remote, or a combination of both. It is a full-time internship (35 hours per week). Flexibility can be granted to work part-time (20 hours per week) for shorter periods of the internship (or exceptionally for the full duration). The start date can be any date between January to July 2026. A total of three Interns will be recruited through this opening. This internship will provide broader programmatic support to implement gender parity strategies for uniformed personnel in UN Peacekeeping Operations, and among others, support the coordination of a, mainly online, Network for uniformed women peacekeepers. The Network aims to connect female peacekeepers from the military, police, and justice and corrections, for peer exchange and learning through e.g. online events, webinars and a resource hub. The internship is situated within the Office for Coordination and Shared Services in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) focuses primarily on five action areas in international peace and security, ensuring sound analysis and early warning, preventing conflict and engaging in peacemaking, managing political crises and violent conflicts, sustaining peace, and enhancing partnerships. The Department's mandate is to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive political solutions. The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) provides political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates. The Department works to integrate the efforts of UN, governmental and non-governmental entities in the context of peacekeeping operations. DPO also provides guidance and support on military, police, rule of law, mine action and other relevant issues to other UN political and peacebuilding missions. This internship will provide broader programmatic support to implement gender parity strategies for uniformed personnel in UN Peacekeeping, and among others, support the Network for uniformed women peacekeepers. Within the limit of delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for one or more of the following duties in support of wider gender parity efforts for uniformed personnel in UN peacekeeping and the pilot network for uniformed women peacekeepers: • Support the conceptualization, organization and execution of online and other events and meetings; • Assist in drafting, formatting and editing reports, communication materials and other written products; • Support the creation and maintenance of an online information repository; • Collect, analyze and visualize quantitative and qualitative information; • Attend events/meetings/seminars and provide insights on results through meeting notes • Conduct research on a wide range of topics and synthesize information • Implement activities in support of the Office's efforts to implement gender parity strategies for civilian and uniformed personnel, including the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy and the Gender Parity Action Plan, as required; and • Perform other duties as required.
