The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: • Retrieving, reviewing, and analyzing criminal records and other documents to independently determine if there are prohibiting factors that prevent potential gun buyers or other recipients of firearms from purchasing or possessing firearms. • Approving or denying firearm purchases requests. • Informing law enforcement on any outstanding warrants of arrest, and/or determining when to transmit immediate administrative message notification(s) to state and local law enforcement agencies of attempts to purchase firearms in circumstances involving protective orders or mental health records. • Documenting research results that support federal disqualification to the possession or transportation of a firearm(s) by inclusion of disqualifying data sets as noted in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
