About The Position

Enhances public safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Department of Corrections (DOC) staff and inmates, by meeting re-entry objectives and by providing effective security, programming, custody and control of adult inmates in a major correctional facility. To provide direct Human Resource program support to staff relative to timekeeping, employee relations, recruitment, benefits programs, and various other areas of Human Resources as required. Oversees and administers Short Term Disability (STD) program and monitors each case along with Family Leave Medical Act (FMLA) and Parental Leave compliance. Assists in all facets of semi-monthly payroll, creates Department of Corrections (DOC)-3's, sends packets to payroll office at Atmore headquarters, keys transactions into Cardinal and Page-up. Creates employment packets for all new hires. Creates interview packets.

Requirements

  • Considerable recent experience providing customer and administrative support to include composing letters, memos, word processing, data entry, filing and other related duties in a professional office setting.
  • Recent experience using office equipment (i.e. computers, printers, copier, fax machine and a multi-line communication system).
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel to accomplish office support requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet deadlines and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Skilled in communicating with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations and work with numerical data.
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain automated and manual filing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and update inventory.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer post-secondary courses in office administration, secretarial science or certification in office administration or equivalent training or experience in a related field.
  • Prefer administrative experience in a criminal justice, court, or law office setting.
  • Demonstrated skill in inputting data into an automated database other than Microsoft Office.
