About The Position

Summary: The Program Support Specialist serves as a role model and peer leader, supporting fellow DSPs in delivering high-quality, person-centered services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Program Support Specialist provides on-the-job training, coaching, and support to ensure consistency, professionalism, and adherence to agency standards. This position bridges frontline service and leadership, helping to enhance retention, engagement, and overall service excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a DSP or in a similar role supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities.
  • Strong understanding of person-centered practices, ISP implementation, and support documentation.
  • Ability to remain flexible, patient, and positive in a dynamic service environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certifications in human services or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, or overnights based on program needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience training or mentoring staff.
  • Knowledge of relevant state regulations and service standards.
  • CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and other required certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Provide teaching, guidance, and coaching to new and existing DSPs.
  • Support the onboarding and orientation of new hires by demonstrating best practices in service delivery, documentation, and communication
  • Assist in the training of DSPs on individual support plans (ISPs), behavior support plans, daily routines, and person-centered approaches
  • Promote and model respectful, inclusive, and empowering interactions with individuals served.
  • Offer real-time feedback and support to DSPs during shifts or site visits
  • Help troubleshoot service delivery issues, escalate concerns appropriately, and collaborate with supervisors to resolve problems
  • Support the development of a positive team culture through ongoing encouragement, recognition, and communication.
  • Participate in regular meetings, trainings, and professional development as required
  • Maintain all standard DSP responsibilities when not actively facilitating (e.g., direct care, documentation, transportation, etc.).
  • Uphold and model compliance with all agency policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
