Administration of Human Resource Programs

The Program Support Assistant position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is located within the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky. This role is essential in providing administrative support to ensure the effective operation of programs and services aimed at assisting chronically ill patients in remaining in their homes. The assistant will work under the supervision of the GEC Supervisory Medical Management Specialist and will be responsible for various clerical and administrative tasks that support patient care and program operations.

  • Collect, compile, and track data and statistical information to support program operations.
  • Assist in the acquisition and development of program information and resource materials.
  • Maintain a pleasant and helpful attitude when interacting with staff, veterans, and the public.
  • Provide information and referrals between professional staff and veterans or caregivers.
  • Process incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence and reports.
  • Compose non-technical correspondence and edit letters and reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Design, delegate, and monitor office procedures that support patient care.
  • Serve as a primary timekeeper for select sections, establishing complex tours of duty for physicians.
  • Conduct new employee service-specific orientation and brief service personnel on time, attendance, and leave requirements.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Ability to perform clerical and administrative support functions in an office setting.
  • Skill in applying knowledge of policies and regulations related to patient care.
  • Ability to gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare it in spreadsheet form.
  • Strong communication skills, both telephonically and in person.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Privacy Act of 1974 and HIPAA regulations.
